Jambay Lakhang Festival Tour

Jambay Lakhang FestivalDay 1: Arrive Paro International Airport.
Receive by Bhutan Travellers Representatives. Check in at Gangtey Palace Hotel. After an early tea visit: Kichu Lhakhang (temple) and Drongja Goemba (monastery). Overnight: Hotel

Day 2: Paro
Hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery and hike back (3 hours round trip). Lunch at the Taktsang Cafeteria. Drive to Drukgyal Dzong (historic fortress in ruins now). Visit the National Museum. Visit a Bhutanese village house for a cup of yak butter tea/local wine. Evening: stroll through Paro town. Overnight: Gangtey Palace Hotel.

Day 3: Paro - Punakha
(145 km. About 5 hours drive). After an early breakfast drive to Punakha. En route visit Simtokha Dzong and halt at Dochula Pass (10,000ft. for a cup of tea/coffee and enjoy a spectacular view of the Himalayan mountains. Overnight: Dragon's Nest Resort.

Day 4: Wangdiphodrang - Bumthang
The distance is about 197 km and the drive takes between six to seven hours along winding steep roads with breathtaking views at every twist and turn! Check in at Wangdichholing Lodge.

Day 5: Jambay Lhakhang Festival
Full Day Jambay Lhakhang Festival. Overnight: Wangdicholing Guesthouse.

Day 6: Jambay Lhakhang Festival
Morning: Jambay Lhakhang Festival. Afternoon: Visit farmhouses to see local textile weaving. Evening: dinner in a local Tibetan restaurant.

Day 7: Festival
The festival is held in the courtyard of the historic Jakar Dzong, built in 1646 A.D. by Minjur Tempa, the third Druk Desi (Temporal Ruler). In 1683 A.D. It was extended by Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye, the fourth Desi.

Day 8: Festival
Morning: See the last day of Jambay Lhakhang festival. Afternoon: Visit several ancient and sacred monasteries such as the Kencho Sum Lhakhang, Tamshing and Pema Samba Lhakhang which are considered important pilgrimage spots. Visit the Bumthang Swiss farm. Overnight Hotel.

Day 9: Bumthang - Wangdiphodrang
En route visit the Watch. Tower in Trongsa and the Trongsa Dzong courtyard. Overnight: Dragon's Nest Hotel.

Day 10: Wangdiphodrang - Thimphu
Visit the Textile Museum, Takin Reserve (national animal). Visit some handicraft shops. Evening: drive to Paro. Overnight: Gangtey Palace Hotel

Day 11: Paro
Drive to Airport for departure.
