September 29, 2010 (Nepal Tourism Year 2011 Campaign in Japan)

Japan holds an important and a special place in Nepal’s total tourist arrivals. More than 25 thousands Japanese tourists come to Nepal every year for trekking, rafting, climbing and cultural tours. To give momentum to this growing trend of arrivals and to update the travel trdae and media on special initiatives of  Nepal Tourism Year 2011campaign, Nepal Tourism Board in close coordination with Nepal Embassy of Nepal, Japan and Japan Chamber of Commerce of Nepal (JCCN) along with 7 prominent private companies participated in JATA World Travel Fair this year, held at Tokyo Big Sight, Japan from 24-26 Sep 2010.
 
In this year’s JATA, there was a display of total 914 exhibition booths showcasing tourism products and attractions from all over the world with representation of 685 companies/organizations from 139 countries and regions. Being one of the prominent travel & tourism fair of Asian countries, JATA 2010 received the footfall of total 111,232 visitors over the period of 3 days.  JATA’s new initiative this year of Market Place (exclusive B2B session of buyers and sellers) was considered as the most effective strategy for participation.
 
The representatives of participating Nepalese companies, Hotel Manang, Hotel Everest, Shangrila Holidays, Liberty Holidays, Hotel Malla, and Sumire Tours & Travels, Adventure Land Nepal Tours and Travels Pvt. Ltd made successful meetings with their counterparts during the Market Place. Nepal's focus at this JATA fair was on generating interest among the west-bound travel trade and potential tourists in Japan towards the upcoming Nepal Tourism Year 2011. Nepal has been positioned as the country of the birthplace of Lord Buddha and the high Himalayas.
 
For the effective participation of Nepal at JATA, JCCN joined hands with Nepal Tourism Board this year, to coordinate for a Nepalese cultural dance performance at the main stage of JATA as well as in the Nepal booth. This being the added attraction, most visitors were drawn to Nepal booth to enquire about the tourism products and the special tour packages offered by the participating companies. The visitors also enjoyed receiving “Nepal Himalaya Candy” produced by The Association for Nepal Synapse Self-Reliance Support in Japan, a corporate social initiative of FOR DAYS Company, Japan. The colorful candy boxes prominently displayed the major tourist attractions of Nepal crating more awareness and curiosity for Nepal.

Coinciding with JATA, in joint coordination with Nepal Embassy, Japan and Nepal Tourism Year 2011 Secretariat, the first International Launch of NTY 2011, in Tokyo, was organized in Tokyo on 27th Sept 2010, the World Tourism Day.

H.E. Mr. Ganesh Yonzon Tamang in his keynote address on the occasion stated that “Our government has declared the year 2011 as Nepal Tourism Year, through which we will endeavor to achieve higher number of tourists from all over the world, including Japan. We are committed to preserve and promote our natural and cultural heritage. “
Mr Yogendra Sakya, National Program Coordinator for NTY 2011, in his special presentation for the first international launching of Nepal Tourism Year 2011, in Tokyo, stressed that “NTY 2011 is not just about tourism promotion but it is also to tell the world that after series of political turmoil, peace is back again in the country. All political parties and the people of Nepal have come together to welcome tourists in 2011.” 
Ms. Junko Tabei addressed the launching ceremony as the chief guest and thanked for the honour expressing her commitment for the development of mountaineering in Nepal. While extending her good wishes for the success of
Nepal Tourism Year 2011 she also expressed her wish to climb Mount Kwangdi Ri, the mountain above 6000 m. along with Nepalese and Japanese female climbers in 2011.
 
Speaking as the guest of honour, Spokesperson of NRN International Coordination Council, Dr. Kumar Basnet stated that the NRN is pleased and determined to cooperate with the Government of Nepal to bring one million visitors to Nepal publicizing Nepal’s warm hospitality, friendly culture and natural beauty for NTY 2011 campaign. Bhaban  Bhatta in his role as HPRR in Japan for NTY 2011 reaffirmed his support and cooperation for making the campaign a great success.
